Celebrate Thanksgiving with Short Term Housing for Medical Students

Ah, Thanksgiving. The ultimate celebration of friends, family, food and football. It’s also a great time to give thanks for all the blessings of the year. If you’re a student over the holidays, however, this can be an especially lonely season. Don’t worry, though! Here in Shreveport, Louisiana, our short term housing for medical students can enable you to host the perfect Thanksgiving feast. How? Read on!

Benefits of short term housing for medical students

One of the greatest features of a fully furnished short term housing solution is that renters benefit from a complete kitchen!! This means that you can bake the green bean casserole, cook the mashed potatoes over the stovetop, microwave some cheese dip for an appetizer and, of course, bake the Thanksgiving turkey. Is someone bringing wine for the dinner? Don’t worry about how to open the bottle, since our short term housing for medical students even has a wine cork remover and bottle opener.

If you’re staying in our medical student rotation housing in Shreveport, you probably are far away from family members. How about hosting a Friendsgiving?! Invite your fellow med students from Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport Hospital or Willis-Knighton Medical Center to come over and fill your table with smiling faces. Yes, Thanksgiving can involve family, but it also is a great time to celebrate with friends.

Loneliness is not an option at Thanksgiving!

All this is good to know, but working as a medical student is in itself an exhausting task. So maybe you don’t want to spend your break slaving over a hot kitchen stove. Never fear…we’ve got some suggestions for your holiday meal that don’t involve cooking a turkey yourself.

  • Go out to dinner at a local Shreveport area restaurant that’s open on the holiday. This link from the Shreveport Times has some ideas.
  • Give back to the community by serving the less fortunate this holiday season.
Some ideas include the Providence House, the Salvation Army, Shreveport-Bossier Rescue Mission and many others.
  • Order a Thanksgiving meal to go from Cracker Barrel or from a local area grocery store. You can heat it up in your own kitchen stove and avoid the hustle and bustle of a busy weekend in town.
  • Or, even simpler, get pizza delivered and watch a movie on our HDTV in your comfy living room area. After a long day at the hospital, enjoy kicking back in our leather reclining chairs to watch football and the Thanksgiving Day parade. Now that sounds like a relaxing idea!!

In conclusion, we hope you all have a safe, happy and healthy Thanksgiving! We look forward to continuing to serve the community with our short term housing for medical students.
