Travel Nurse Housing Tips & App Recommendations for Nurses on the Go!

It’s gotten to the point where we don’t go anywhere without our cell phones. That’s no surprise, because a smartphone offers many tools we need to get through the day, including maps, lists, emails, text messages, social media, clock, reminders and, of course, phone calls. For medical professionals who travel frequently for work, this is also true. In this post, we’ll discuss some important apps that individuals (like yourself!) staying in travel nurse housing may want to consider.

Naturally, There’s an App For That

In addition to all the resources mentioned, your smartphone offers access to many references that can help make nursing easier on the go. Why lug around heavy books from rental to rental when you can just take your phone?!

  • Nursing Central incorporates materials from Davis’ Drug Guide, Diseases and Disorders, Taber’s Medical Dictionary and Davis’ Laboratory and Diagnostic Tests. This is a paid app, but offers a wealth of information.
  • NurseGrid is a super helpful tool to track your shift and manage schedules with other nurses in the hospital. It’s a great way to share your schedule with family or friends and can help to bring a little sanity to your hectic lifestyle.
  • Epocrates is an essential app to have for researching medications and possible interactions between drugs. It even can help you figure out what an “unidentified” pill is with pictures of medications.
  • Google Translate gives you the ability to quickly communicate with patients that might not speak the same language as you do. It has some offline capabilities as well as conversation-style and text typing translations.
  • Keener is designed to help you, the nurse, relax and get the self-care you need after a busy day. The app offers new, daily content and helps you journal your experiences. On another note, we’ve previously blogged about journaling, taking a bath etc to help you get centered at the end of the day. Check out the other posts!

Please keep in mind that we are providing information about these applications as a convenience to our current and potential tenants! We don’t specifically endorse any of the apps listed or companies connected to them.
