Good morning! Wake up, journal and head to work from travel nurse housing

Do you have a morning routine? As a nurse, your working hours probably look different than the traditional 9-5. However, there’s something reassuring about grabbing that cup of coffee, taking a hot shower, exercising etc before leaving your travel nurse housing location for work (whenever it is!). Another regular activity you may want to consider adding to the mix is the act of journaling. Or, if preferred, journaling can also be a good way to unwind at the end of the day. As such, in this post, we’ll discuss how self-expression can help medical professionals process their own experiences from the day.

What do you think?

Nurses, doctors and other medical professionals have been trained to listen to patients and use their powers of deduction, observation and reasoning to help promote healing. Often, though, long hours of caring for others can result in depleted mental and emotional resources for the professionals themselves. Journaling is one small way to help recharge. Here are some methods / types of journals you may appreciate…

  • Simple and understated while being effortlessly stylish, the Moleskine is a classic choice for writing down your thoughts.
  • Would you prefer something a little more personalized? Get a custom journal with your name printed on the front! Paper Source and Minted are two of many sources where you can get a bound book printed just for you.
  • There are some pretty cute options for diaries for nurses! Check out the options at Etsy and Amazon. You may also want to check out the Nurse’s Journal as another resource designed specifically to help medical professionals.
  • Don’t like your handwriting, but still want to capture your thoughts and ideas? Try typing out your entries on Microsoft Word, Evernote or another type of desktop or cell phone app.
  • Maybe you’d prefer sharing your feelings publicly so that others can read and learn from what you share. You can create a blog site via WordPress.com (for free or for a fee) or use a similar service.
  • Some self-expression can be best represented through pictures. If you’re an artist (or aspiring artist!), try drawing a simple sketch each day to calm nerves and express your reaction to the day’s events.
  • Don’t want to write down your thoughts? Try creating an audio journal instead! This is perfect for nurses who want to talk out their day to a listening “ear” and is a valid option for recording thoughts on the way to or from the hospital. This article has some helpful tips and reasons why audio recording might be a better option for you.
