It never hurts to plan ahead
- As you start to take rounds, you’ll probably encounter new situations worth remembering later. That’s why it can be really helpful to have a good notepad with you at all times. Check out this ProRound Medical Notebook specifically designed for medical needs. Etsy has some notebook options as well.
- Don’t forget to bring a pen with you too! Or, better yet, fill one of your pockets full of cheap pens with lids to give out to anyone who needs it.
- Bring food!! Don’t underestimate the power of good snacks. Check out this post where we talk about some healthy lunches you can bring with you to work.
- Take with you any resources that will help in references or looking up medical terminology. Please talk to your supervisor to make sure of the specifics needed. In a previous post, we discuss some smartphone apps you may want to keep in mind.
- It’s always helpful to bring a friendly attitude and willingness to learn. As a medical professional, you’re likely familiar with the term “bedside manner”, which refers to the way a doctor treats his or her patients.1 Take the time to develop good habits in regards to bedside manner with all patients…and even treat your co-workers well too!
- A map of your new hospital location. You don’t want to get lost on your first day, do you? Even if that happens, a map will go a long ways toward helping you orient yourself quickly and get back on track. It will also give you a great bird’s eye view of the Brentwood Hospital campus, Willis-Knighton Medical Center or wherever you’ll be located right at the beginning of your rotation.
Please keep in mind that we are providing information about any companies mentioned as a convenience to our current and potential tenants! We don’t specifically endorse any business or organization listed.
