Weather or not you know it, the forecast makes a difference in travel plans. Jokes aside, when working on the road as a traveling nurse, it’s important to know what the climate is like in the state you’ll be heading to. In this post, we’ll discuss the Louisiana climate, specifically as it relates to the Shreveport & Bossier City area. That way, you’ll be better prepared when you come to stay in our travel nurse housing!
When is the best time of year in Shreveport?
Life in our beautiful Southern city is good. If you’ve spent most of your time up in the Northeast, you’ll be pleased to enjoy milder winter temperatures here. In fact, don’t plan on seeing much snow! After all, Shreveport LA is in the South. True, it does snow occasionally, but average lows during the coldest month, January, are typically in the upper 30s.1
The old nursery rhyme says “Rain rain go away / Come again another day.”2 Well, here in Shreveport, you may be using a raincoat or umbrella fairly often. On average, the city gets 51 inches of rain a year.1 However, rainy weather makes for perfect movie nights with a friend or self-taught baking lessons in our fully equipped kitchen. Rent a travel nurse housing unit from us and you’ll have access to kitchen supplies like a Dutch oven, mixer with beaters, measuring cup / spoons, mixing bowls, cookie sheet etc.
Shreveport does benefit from lower wind speeds in comparison to other cities such as Cheyenne, WY or Wichita, KS.3 If you like picnics in the park, you won’t have to worry as much about things blowing around in the wind. Forget blustery days in Louisiana!
Looking for the optimal time of year for staying in Louisiana? Try spring or fall if possible to enjoy the best weather.4
