As the famous nurse Florence Nightingale said, “Variety of form and brilliancy of color in the object presented to patients are an actual means of recovery.”1 She recognized that environment can affect hospital patients. It can actually help them feel better and encourage their recovery! But art isn’t just for the hospitalized. It can also provide a safe place for nurses fighting burnout, stress and discouragement. This article on the American Nurse website is fascinating on the topic.

Check out the information below for some places where you can view art or engage in artistic outlets yourself.

Murals Around Town

  • There are a variety of murals as well as other cool art installations that you can drive around to see in an area near downtown called Shreveport Common. The Shreveport Regional Arts Council website features more information as well as a map so you can pinpoint the locations you’re interested in seeing. This Shreveport Times article also mentions some murals you may want to check out in the city.
  • Did you know that Shreveport LA is home to one giant mural! The Once in a Millennium Moon mural is 14 stories tall and covers two sides of a building in downtown Shreveport LA.2 What’s really neat about it is that it depicts local people in a unique and engaging art rendition.

  • The RW Norton Art Gallery has been closed, but is opening again in April 2021! The beautiful facility and botanical gardens offer a relaxing escape from everyday life.
