Have a Homey Holiday Wherever You Are

- Set the mood with a lovely Christmas tablecloth. Or, use cloth napkins for an elegant touch. These items are easy to pack, lightweight and can be washed.
- Take a trip to the store and buy a new scented candle for the season. Choose Thanksgiving / Christmas scents like cinnamon, pumpkin pie, gingerbread etc.
- Hear those Christmas bells ring! Get an inexpensive Bluetooth speaker (like this one, for example) and start playing your favorite holiday tunes. You’ll probably have visions of sugarplums dancing in your sleep!
- Find someplace in your short term rental to hang a Christmas stocking for yourself…and your dog, if Fido is traveling with you. Stockings come in so many beautiful designs and it can become a yearly tradition (no fireplace needed!).
- Bake a batch of Mom’s famous chocolate chip cookies or another baked good that reminds you of home.
- If you want to go all out with holiday decorating, get a tabletop Christmas tree or a small live tree that you can give to a recycling center at the end of the season. You can get a tree even if you don’t want to buy or pack ornaments! Instead, make some simple decorations like popcorn strings, cinnamon ornaments or even just string up some twinkle lights on the tree with pretty bows tied onto the branches.
