Set Five New Year’s Resolutions while Staying in our Travel Nurse Housing

Want to get a head start on the new upcoming year?! Think about setting some goals…maybe something personal, work-related, health-focused or otherwise. As a medical professional, you’re used to high standards of achievement in the hospital setting and this can easily lead to mental and physical exhaustion. Don’t think about New Year’s resolutions as unattainable, unrealistic goals that just add more to your To Do list. Instead, as you sit in your travel nurse housing and relax, think about five ways to work towards a better you (whatever that may entail) in 2022.

Goal-Setting Ideas for Inspiration

Of course, there are a ton of possibilities for ways to grow and improve your well-being. As a traveling nurse, you’ve already taken a big step towards learning new things on a continual basis. After all, your job involves regular travel to new locations (such as Shreveport LA) on assignment. But here are a few options to consider…

  • Do some volunteering in the community. This is a terrific way to make some new friends and get to know your temporary hometown. In a previous post, we discuss some local area volunteer ideas.
  • If you tend to skip meals, stop! Work to develop consistent eating patterns that help your body perform at its best. Yes, this can be challenging with long twelve-hour shifts at a local medical facility such as Willis-Knighton Medical Center or Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport, but it’s important. Check out these posts for tips on making breakfast and lunch at our fully furnished temporary housing for travel nurses. One big benefit of staying at one of our short term rentals is that you can enjoy an equipped kitchen area that features all of the cooking / baking tools you’ll need to make delicious meals “at home”.
  • Resolve to work on your interactions with patients in order to improve their quality of care. Don’t make it too hard, though! An extra smile, calming words or a pat on the back can mean the world to someone in a very difficult situation. Plus, it can brighten your day to encourage someone else.
  • Keep better track of your finances in 2022. As a traveling nurse, doctor or paramedic, you know that managing your money is crucial to ensuring that you can leave for the next destination in a few months. If you haven’t already, download a spending app on your phone to help you record expenses. Then, whenever you buy something, record it in the app. This way, you’ll have a running tally of where you’re spending money throughout the month or year.
  • Yes, it goes without saying…exercise more in the new year. Make a goal to walk, run, jog, cycle, swim, kayak, play ball or something a couple times a week. If you’re not used to exercising, build the habit by starting with a few stretches in the morning or before bed. You’ll thank yourself later!
