Fun Day Trips near our Shreveport Temporary Housing for Travel Nurses!

One big advantage to working as a traveling nurse is that you can enjoy learning and experiencing lots of new places. And there’s so much to see and do here in Shreveport LA! In addition, our temporary housing for travel nurses provides an excellent “home base” so you can take day trips or even weekend getaways while staying in the area on assignment. In this post, we’ll discuss some options you may want to consider.

Area Attractions to See

Nurses and medical professionals work long 12-hour shifts in the hospital, but one benefit is that they typically get several days off per week. This translates to more time to explore! Below are some area attractions to consider:

  • Located in Mooringsport, LA, Morell Dairy Farm is a fun excuse to be outside. The farm offers milk, eggs and butter for sale and you can also meet the cows and chickens. They are located about 30 minutes away from Shreveport.
  • Looking for a uniquely Southern experience? Each April, you can find a Civil War Battle Re-Enactment in Pelican, LA. The Battle of Pleasant Hill Re-Enactment also features a parade, period ball and more. It’s located about an hour from Shreveport.
  • Gator Chateau is around 3.5 hours one way from Shreveport, so it’s a longer trip, but is worth checking out. You’ll definitely want to take lots of pictures while here because you can hold a baby Alligator! You can also watch them feed the gators while visiting this free point of interest.
  • You’ve got to see a plantation while staying here in the South! Melrose Plantation is around 1.5 hours away from our city. It’s a wonderful place to learn more about local history and what it was like to live in Louisiana more than 200 years ago.
  • Texas State Railroad is an immersive step back in time. Book one of their four-hour, round trip train rides and watch the scenery go by in a beautiful, refurbished train car. You’ll need to drive about 2.5 hours to get to Palestine, TX, which is where most of their trains depart from.

Check back again next week as we discuss some longer weekend getaways you don’t want to miss out on!
