Costume Ideas for Pets & Renters in Temporary Housing for Travel Nurses

Boo! Happy Halloween, everyone! As we head into the month of October, it’s time to start thinking about the upcoming Christmas, Thanksgiving and Halloween holidays. One of the most important factors in preparing for the month is…what are you going to dress up as this year? For medical professionals, wearing a costume can be an easy way to lighten up a dreary hospital environment and boost patient morale. In this post, we’ll discuss some costume ideas you can wear to the workplace as well as some costumes for your pets that live with you in your temporary housing for travel nurses.

A fun costume can be a little extension of your own personality. Do you like to make jokes and generally serve as the life of the team? Dress up as a “party animal!” There are so many easily recognizable animals to choose from, such as a cow (wear white scrubs with black spots taped on) or a cat (wear dark eyeshadow, draw whiskers on your face, add black or dark scrubs, a tail and cat ears and you’re good to go).

We all know that nurses and doctors can be like superheroes! Play up that theme by wearing a cape with your outfit and draw a makeup mask around your eyes. Or, wear angel wings with a halo and float around the hospital all day.

For a humorous costume that takes a little thought, buy a bunch of Smarties candy and tape or glue it to your scrub pant legs. You’ll be the smarty pants of the group! Another cute idea is to coordinate with your coworkers and dress up as a group. You could all be characters from a movie such as The Wizard of Oz or a Disney classic like Cinderella. Nurses could also all wear costumes from the same time period like the 80s.

Of course, please check with your supervisor before buying supplies to make your costume. This will help to ensure that you know exactly what the hospital guidelines are about adding to / modifying your scrubs or wearing something different.

Another twist on the costume idea is to make or buy a cute outfit for your dog or cat! Since Fido will be at home (and doesn’t have to abide by workplace guidelines), the sky’s the limit on what you can do. When choosing an outfit, think about the things you enjoy and what would make your friends smile when you share photos of your pet on social media. Is there a favorite movie you enjoy? What about giving your pet an outfit that ties in with yours? For example, if you dress up as a cat, maybe your cat could dress up as you with scrubs and a stethoscope. Or, if you’re wearing a superhero outfit, your dog could be the trusty sidekick. Have fun with it!
