Staying in travel nurse housing? Help the environment with recycling

Let’s live sustainably! Many businesses are working towards making the environment better by reducing waste and reusing what’s already available. It’s a great concept that can also carry over on an individual level. In this post, we’ll discuss various recycling tips and tricks that you can implement if desired while staying in our travel nurse housing.

What can I do to recycle and reduce waste?

One of the best ways to reduce waste is simply to use less yourself! Here are some ideas…

  • Invest in cloth or reusable shopping bags when heading to the store for groceries. If you forget your bags and still want to help the environment, take your used plastic bags to a Walmart store. Many Walmart locations have a green recycling bin at the front entrance where you can place used flexible plastic. Check out this website for more potential plastic bag recycling drop-offs in the area.
  • Don’t buy bottled water…instead, get some BPA-free plastic bottles that you can wash in the dishwasher and refill to put in the fridge for cooling.
  • As a traveling nurse by profession, you probably have already opted into paying most bills online for convenience. After all, snail mail is trickier to deal with since you move frequently. Check out Ecocycle.org for some ideas if you’re still managing to get plenty of junk mail and / or paper waste.
  • Get used to using a bar soap instead of body wash in a plastic bottle! Several businesses in town where you can buy specialty bar soap include Shreveport Soap Company, Buff City Soap and Man Made Soap.

Excess recyclables you need to get rid off? Call the Bossier City Recycling Center to verify their walk-in hours, then deliver your items to their storefront for processing.

Do you like to drink soda pop? Call CMC Recycling ahead for pricing and to check their hours. Then, take your collection of scrap metal / aluminum cans to them for recycling.
