When packing for a trip, sometimes it can feel like you end up bringing so much stuff with you. Of course, as a traveling professional doing frequent business trips for a month or longer, you’re going to need quite a few essentials. Thankfully, our fully furnished Shreveport LA rentals make your job much easier. As you prepare to go, however, don’t forget some of the items mentioned below that you’ll want on the road.
Road Trip Success Begins with the Planning
In a previous post, we discussed some tips as well as road trip games that you can play when multiple people are riding together. We also talked about various emergency travel kits and what those might include. Now, we’ll cover some “can’t live without” car essentials you’ll want handy.- Pair of Scissors – You never know when you may need this to cut off the tags from clothing you just bought or to assist in opening a bag of chips. Alternatively, a pocketknife also would serve well here.
- Refillable Drink Bottle(s) – Super helpful to have, especially if the bottles hold heat and cold well throughout the day. This allows you to fill up with coffee in the morning and then refill at lunch with cold water or soda at a rest stop.
- Snacks – Get your snacking face on! Don’t drive on an empty stomach, but do pick munchies that are bite-sized and less messy. Please pull over to the side of the road while eating for your own personal safety. Ideas include Little Smokies, crackers with squeezable cheese, beef jerky, chocolate of any kind, dried fruit etc.
- Cooler and Plastic Baggies – The cooler goes without saying if you’re wanting to bring Little Smokies or other food that needs to stay cold. Plastic baggies are great for filling up with ice to keep in the cooler. Or, they work to stuff travel receipts in, store toiletries, put seashells or other found objects in and more.
- Popup Sunblocking Shades – Shades are really nice to have if multiple people are in your vehicle and want to block out the sun for a nap. Please be careful that any shades you get don’t obstruct your own view or the view of the driver.
- Trash Bags – Essential for collecting miscellaneous car trash.
- Tote Bag – Nice to have if you need to stop at a store and want something to help transport your purchases.
- Flip Flops – Take these to the beach or wear them around like house shoes.
- Pens – You never know when you’ll need to write down your mileage or take a note.
- Jumper Cables – If your car battery dies, these are important to have.
- Spare Tire – Make sure you have a viable spare tire and the tools needed to change it if you have a flat on the road.
- First Aid Kit – Helpful for simple cuts as well as sunburn relief etc.
- Phone Charger with Cord – Truly essential since keeping your phone charged means you can call for help if needed, access your GPS and listen to music / audiobooks.
- Blanket – You’ll want to have a blanket with you just in case you get stuck on the side of the road and get cold.
- Road Map – Want a non-tech way to keep tabs on where you are? A road map allows you to easily get a bird’s eye view of the route you’re taking and is always a good backup in case your phone battery dies.
- Tool Kit – If you’re handy with a wrench, it might be a good idea to bring along a few key car repair tools just in case.
Of course, this is only a few of the things you may want to consider. Check out this packing list or this one for additional ideas. And please, always keep your personal safety in mind at all times while driving on the road.
