Music captures the soul of a culture as well as the heart and emotions of a person. Singing a song or playing an instrument can be a way to express deep grief or even glorious happiness. Music is very important to the state of Louisiana and is an integral part of the history of the area. You probably think of New Orleans Jazz music first when thinking about Louisiana. But did you know that Shreveport LA also has a rich musical heritage? In this post, we’ll briefly discuss some musical history as well as mention how you can relax with music in our travel nurse housing.
Shreveport’s musical background
Shreveport has hosted many incredible musicians over the years. These include young Elvis Presley, Louis Armstrong, Willie Nelson and more. In addition, Hank Williams and his son, Hank Williams Jr, lived in Shreveport for a time.1
Check out this article in the Shreveport Times for lots more information about our city’s ties to music. You’ll also find links to local artists as well.
Of course, it’s even more fun to go and see where all the magic has happened over the years. If you’re up for a walking tour, you may want to check out this link or this one to go with a group and learn more about the city. Or, want to check out a few locations yourself? Head to the Elvis Presley statue in front of the historic Shreveport Municipal Auditorium. You can also visit the grave of Huddie “Lead Belly” Ledbetter, a well-known Blues musician, in Mooringsport LA.2
Please note that Shreveport Bossier Corporate Housing does not personally endorse any of the activities as found in the links…information is offered only as a convenience to you. Listening to music while relaxing in our travel nurse housing
Music can also be a great way to unwind after a long day on your feet at Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport or possibly Willis-Knighton Medical Center. Work as a traveling nurse can be hard mentally, physically and emotionally. Our fully furnished travel nurse housing can be a refuge from the stress of the workplace. When you get home, grab a bottle of wine and cork remover, fill up the bathtub with a hot bubble bath and soak away to some awesome tunes. If you don’t have the Spotify app on your phone, download it and check out playlists like Shreveport Southern Soul – The Murco Story or Shreveport Sessions among others.
