Don’t walk, don’t jog…run! There’s something absolutely freeing about picking up your feet, increasing speed and running. Spring is just around the corner, which means that activities such as baseball, outdoor picnics and 5K races are near. Spring is also a great season to relocate to the Shreveport and Bossier City area, since choosing our fully furnished travel nurse housing is a no-brainer and you’ll have lots of time left in the year to enjoy all the city has to offer. In this post, we’ll discuss some ideas / options if you like to run.
5K outdoor events & more: The need for speed in Louisiana
Running is a simple, low-cost way to burn off excess energy. It’s also a good way to keep your body in tip-top shape. By doing this, you’re improving your mental health and preparing for long shifts on your feet at the hospital.
How do you like to run? For some, the chance to get out into nature and do solo runs is very cathartic. Or, maybe you like to do a solo run, but prefer it indoors? If you’d rather use a treadmill while listening to a podcast, check out the local area gyms you may want to consider…
- Planet Fitness has more than one Shreveport location (as well as one in Bossier City) and is open 24/7, except for some holidays.
- If you work at Willis-Knighton Medical Center, you’re probably familiar with the Willis-Knighton Fitness and Wellness Centers around the city. With four locations, treadmills for running and lots of classes, this is a solid option.
- Check out Anytime Fitness as well in order to compare with the others. This gym membership comes with access to a members app where they provide a new workout for your benefit each day.
But what if you’re a Type A personality that likes to train for an upcoming goal? Never fear…there are lots of upcoming marathon and 5K events this year.
- Already in shape and ready to go? You can still sign up for next weekend’s Crawfest 5K.
- Summer Grove Baptist Church has both 5K and 10K races at their event on April 17, 2021.
- Of course, if you’re an experienced runner, you may be interested in the half marathon featured at the Radiance Technologies Independence Bowl on May 15th.
These are only a few of the races currently scheduled this year. You can do a quick search on Google or look at the RunSignup website for other races if desired.
Please keep in mind that the gyms and running events mentioned are only suggestions…we are providing these options as a convenience to our current and potential tenants! We don’t specifically endorse any business or organization listed. Also, please follow guidelines for social distancing while out and about.
