The holidays are coming, which means it’s time to start thinking about plans for time with family as well as preorder any gifts you may want to give this season. In addition, if you have a furry feline or canine friend, it’s important to consider any special accommodations for your pets during the holiday season. In this post, we’ll discuss how to plan around or make arrangements for your pets while staying in our temporary housing for travel nurses.
How to Holiday-Proof your Pets (and Vise-Versa)!
Of course, our travel nurse housing is already fully furnished and completely pet-friendly, so you don’t need to worry about that when renting from us. But if you want to put up a Christmas tree or other seasonal decorations in your short term rental, you’ll need to keep pets in mind. After all, no one wants your Great-Grandma’s heirloom ornament to break! Here’s some tips…- If you’re leaving Shreveport LA and going back home for the holidays, one option is to put your pet in a kennel for the duration. Even if you stay in Louisiana, you could at least let a friend dog-sit while you’re hosting a holiday party. It can help alleviate stress to temporarily pass guardianship of your pet to someone else.
- Planning to put up decorations in your condo? As already mentioned, keep breakable items out of the way. You might consider getting a smaller tabletop tree and anchoring it to the table with duct tape so it’s nice and secure. Keep smaller loose items or wires out of your pet’s reach as well. Live plants like Poinsettias, Holly, Mistletoe and Lilies should be avoided so pets have no chance of eating them.
- In the same way, holiday treats that are human-safe may not be safe for dogs or cats.
- If you invite friends over, pets may have added anxiety…be aware of this and work around it as necessary. Put your dog in a quiet room while the party’s going if possible.
