Ah, the weekend! There’s nothing quite like a few days off to help recharge and mentally prepare for a new week. As a nurse or doctor, you may have different “weekend” days than office staff in traditional Monday-Friday jobs. But long shifts at a local Shreveport hospital still take a mental toll. In this post, we’ll give some suggestions for movies or TV shows you may enjoy while staying at our fully furnished travel nurse housing.
Medical-themed movies and TV shows
First of all, make a few bags of buttery popcorn. You’ll find a microwave, Keurig machine, full-sized fridge and more in the fully equipped kitchen area inside each of our rentals. Then, head to the living room…complete with leather reclining chairs as well as a sleeper sofa (if you want to sleep in front of the TV!). You’ll find a HDTV with cable in each of our travel nurse housing units.
Of course, if you want to show anything from your laptop onto the TV (such as a movie you’ve purchased online), that’s an easy fix. Simply purchase an HDMI cable at a local Walmart, Best Buy etc and hook the computer up through an HDMI port to the TV. Below are some TV shows and / or movies with a medical theme that you may enjoy!
- House TV Show – Looking for a show that’s combination mystery and medical drama? Dr. House may be an abrasive personality, but he solves challenging cases in an incredible and fascinating way.
- Call the Midwife – A heartwarming show inspired by the true life story of Jennifer Worth. The TV show follows a group of hard-working midwives in London during the 1950s and 1960s.
- Scrubs TV Show – This humorous show documents Dr. John Dorian’s ups and downs at the hospital where he is a new intern. In less than thirty minutes, you’ll be laughing along as Dr. Dorian imagines fantastical situations and then crying as he faces life and death decisions at the hospital.
- Emily Owens, M.D. – Emily Owens is a relatable doctor dealing with the insecurities and challenges of life and love.
- Madame Curie – If you love classic movies, you’ll enjoy this 1944 biographical film based on the life of Marie Curie, who discovered radium and polonium.1
