As we rapidly approach the end of the year, it’s a wonderful time to consider year-end giving and ways to be generous to others during the holiday season. In this post, we’ll talk about our fully furnished short term rentals and how even temporary Shreveport residents can make a difference in the community by possibly donating to local-area and national non-profit organizations.

- Shreveport Green – Designed to promote a clean local environment through recycling, city cleanup projects, community gardens, daffodil sales and more.
- Common Ground Community – Offers support to their neighborhood through meals, food pantry, clothes closet, chapel services, educational activities etc.
- Geaux 4 Kids, Inc – Want to help foster kids in need? This charitable organization gives “geaux bags” to foster children so they are equipped with necessary items such as pajamas, toothbrush / toothpaste, a pillow and more. Geaux 4 Kids also provides Christmas gifts to struggling teenagers in local schools.
- Girl Scouts of Louisiana – Pines to the Gulf – Help young girls succeed! You can be a volunteer or donate so girls have the chance to experience the outdoors and become more confident individuals.
- Shreveport-Bossier Rescue Mission – Provides meals and a roof for men, women and children in need.
- Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana – The Food Bank fights hunger by collecting resources that can be distributed to local charities as needed for giving to the public.
Of course, if you already have your giving budget spoken for or don’t have the extra financial resources, don’t worry! There are plenty of other ways to bless and encourage the people around you. Here are some ideas…
- Smile at strangers! This includes patients at the hospital and anyone you see at the grocery store.
- Volunteer your time. Some of the organizations above would love to have extra hands to help with various tasks…just ask! Or, take a look at the Shreveport Volunteer Network website for more ideas.
- Send texts or handwritten cards of encouragement to friends and family.
- Donate some of your extra clothes to a local charity or someplace such as Goodwill.
