Christmas Morning Snacks: The Bossier City Travel Nurse Housing Edition

Christmas Day is less than one week away! For many, the Christmas season is a special time of year to celebrate family, friends, faith and community. There’s something magical about the lights, holiday traditions, movies, gift giving, parties etc. But don’t forget about the food! Usually, yuletide eats are delicious, but not very healthy. In this post, we’ll discuss some easy goodies that families as well as health-conscious medical professionals will approve of. What better way to celebrate Christmas morning in your travel nurse housing rental?!

Let’s eat some healthy treats!

Of course, as a nurse, you may have to work on Christmas or sometime during the holiday weekend. This can make it more challenging to carve out time to relax, but it’s still very important to do so! After all, your own physical and mental well-being are critical to your effectiveness in the hospital and in life overall. So, when thinking about treats to make for the special day, keep it simple. If it’s your day off, eat light and snack often. Take time to sleep in, watch TV and open presents (over Zoom or with family / friends in person). If you’re working over Christmas at Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport or a nearby Bossier City LA hospital, bring some snacks to your co-workers!

Here’s some ideas…

  • Gingerbread Protein Pancakes – Comforting and oh-so-tasty, these gluten-free, lower calorie treats can be made ahead and kept in the freezer until eaten.
  • Baked Eggs with Veggies – Each dish looks so elegant, but is made with only a few ingredients. Plus, eggs and veg will give you the fuel you need to have a successful day!
  • Baked Apple Oatmeal Squares – Yummy in my tummy! These warm, gooey squares of oatmeal will fill your stomach in a most delightful way and can be made ahead for easy reheating in the microwave or oven. In addition, since you’re baking a whole pan of these at a time, this makes the perfect dish to take to work with you.
  • Pumpkin Pie Greek Yogurt – Take plain yogurt to the next level with a simple twist. Pumpkin and some spices add the necessary holiday flair and taste. You won’t believe you’re eating healthy!
  • Mini Cinnamon Rolls – Sometimes the heart just wants what the heart wants…and that means cinnamon rolls! But these delectable rolls are smaller, use whole wheat pastry flour and have less sugar.
