The term “al fresco” refers to the act of eating outdoors.1 It’s a fancy word, but sometimes the best meals don’t have to be complicated. After all, BLT sandwiches or hot dogs with a side of macaroni & cheese are amazing comfort food meals and are easy to eat outside. In addition, eating at a restaurant these days can be more challenging due to COVID-19. Why not change up the routine from eating in front of the television and sit outside?!

This year, life has gotten a lot more complicated due to COVID-19. As humans, we crave people interaction and it’s simply more difficult to have a dinner party or even a quick coffee date with friends like we all used to love. Enter outdoor space. One of the best ways to encourage safer in-person hangouts with friends this year is to meet outdoors. The CDC recommends small outdoor gatherings (vs large events) since they offer better ventilation with more space for people to spread out and stay socially distanced.2 Of course, masks and common sense tactics like hand-washing are also appropriate. So, if you’re looking to catch up with a friend, invite him or her over to your outdoor patio! It’s ideal for a bite of dessert or even just to chat for awhile.
