Happy New Year! Once again, it’s time to turn the calendar page and begin a fresh year. Although January 1st can bring mixed feelings, it is a great time to re-evaluate and make positive New Year’s resolutions for the upcoming months. Exercise, dating and choosing Shreveport’s best fully furnished short term rentals are all great choices. But the less obvious resolutions are also wonderful…such as choosing to grow in kindness and appreciation for others. We’ll discuss ways to show appreciation to others in this post as well as talk about our short-term housing solutions!
How to Show Kindness to Others
Here are just a few of many ways to show you care…- Give Mom and Dad a call to see how they are doing or set up a Zoom or Facetime call with them so they can see your face!
- Send a text to your siblings to catch up and show you care.
- Send a written letter to Grandma or Grandpa. Check out The Agora Borealis Marketplace for a cool shop in town where you can buy stationary and other unique gifts to give.
- Work on forgiving those who have hurt you.
- Say thank you and smile at people who serve you…in grocery stores, at restaurants, while staying at a hotel etc. In a similar way, give a tip to appreciate them.
- At work, take time to listen to co-workers and their needs, especially if they share details about their personal life.
- Give a holiday gift to your boss or send a Christmas card of appreciation to him or her. Listen and try to obey direction / leadership from your boss.
- Make a list of non-profits or people you know that need your donations of time, money or other resources. Work on giving to these as you are able.
- Find a book, podcast or place of worship where you can be encouraged spiritually.
- If you see your neighbor outside, wave and smile.
- If you have children, make sure to tell them you love them each and every day. Show your love for them by sharing special life experiences together or even just reading them a bedtime story at the end of the day. Small gestures go such a long ways towards building relationships with these precious people in your life.
- If you are married or have a significant other, show your appreciation by kind words that express your love for this incredible person you’re with. Give time to listen and share your own thoughts and dreams. Do thoughtful things like making breakfast, doing the laundry, feeding the dog etc. Buy little gifts “just because.”
- If you’re staying in one of our houses for rent in Shreveport LA with a roommate or coworker, take a few minutes each day to pick up after yourself. Do your own dishes in the kitchen, keep the food you’ve bought in one area in the full-sized fridge, take out the trash, take turns making meals etc.
- For pet owners, show respect for others by cleaning up after your dog. In addition, seek a dog trainer if necessary so your pet can learn not to bark at or lunge towards postal workers, visiting friends or other dogs. If you have a party, consider keeping your pet in a separate room with the door closed so friends don’t have to interact with an overexcited animal.
Of course, please do / don’t do these things at your own risk and with your personal discretion and safety in mind. Shreveport Bossier Corporate Housing wants you to be safe, happy and healthy in the New Year!
