Just as you need to eat to function, so your vehicle probably needs fuel to make it run smoothly and get you around. It’s pretty essential to daily life, especially if you are a frequent traveler…for work, travel nursing or as a military family making a cross-country PCS move. In this post, we’ll talk about our off-base Barksdale AFB housing and explain how choosing a good rental is more important than selecting a commodity like fuel. Of course, knowing where the gas stations are located in town is also helpful, so we’ll mention some options for you to choose from while here.
Where to Buy Gas?

- Shell boasts more than 10 stations in town, including three right along Barksdale Boulevard.
- Raceway primarily operates in the south and on the east coast. The franchise locations are scattered across town, with the two closest to base at 8048 East Texas Street and 2125 Old Minden Road in Bossier City.
- Exxon offers a cool deal you might not know about! In addition to the Exxon Mobil Fuel Rewards+ program, they also have discounts for Walmart Plus members! That’s right, if you have an active Walmart+ account, you can use the app to save on your next fill-up.
- Circle K operates a station at 1201 Barksdale Boulevard as well as nine or so other stations in the area. What’s more, Circle K can be a quick lunch or snack stop if desired! Get a soda pop or select pizza, hot dogs, deli sandwiches or other edibles for your commute.
- Chevron has a smaller footprint in the area (with less than 10 locations), but you can still drive over to 1604 Airline Drive in Bossier City or one of the company’s other stations if you have a preference on which gas station you frequent.
- Like Chevron, Citgo has less Shreveport stores (around 5) than some of the other companies. However, you can still save money on rewards with Club Citgo!
- Some other companies that may be a little less known include Murphy USA and Sunoco.
- In addition to the usual gas station options, service members can utilize the two AAFES fueling stations on-base. One AAFES (Army & Air Force Exchange Service) is located at 7650 Range Road and the other is at 200 Wilbur Wright Drive. Prices may or may not be cheaper than off-base costs…use Gas Buddy or shop around to compare and find your favorite spot.
