Although this isn’t a comprehensive list, it does cover many of the most important ways that tenants can respect and promote a good landlord-tenant relationship.

  1. It goes without saying, but the best way to your landlord’s heart is to pay your bill in a timely manner! She spends a lot of time working to ensure you stay in a safe environment and that deserves to be rewarded.
  2. The Golden Rule says to “do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” In the same way, take care of the property you’re renting! This includes taking trash to the pickup spot regularly, using the dishwasher to clean up dirty dishes and washing linens with the in-unit washer and dryer. In addition, caring for someone else’s property means making efforts not to damage furniture or the condo itself. Of course, accidents do happen and these should be documented and reported to your landlord as needed. Finally, when your rental lease is up, leave promptly and do a brief cleanup (or whatever is listed on your rental agreement) before you go.
  3. If you’re confused about any details in the rental agreement, ask questions! Clear communication is a huge part of the working relationship you want to have, especially since you’re staying for one or more months. Don’t just ask questions at the outset either…if you have concerns or things that need addressed along the way, send a text or email to your landlord with the issues. Here at Shreveport Bossier Corporate Housing, we want to foster positive interactions and clear communication with our renters.
  4. Be friendly to neighbors and treat them with kindness. Don’t be a nasty neighbor!
the way you want to be treated.
  5. This item relates to the previous one, but it’s important to keep the noise down. Don’t play loud music or host loud parties and, if you have a dog, make efforts to keep dog barking at a minimum whenever possible.
  6. While here, always abide by the laws of the State of Louisiana. Drunk driving, vandalism, drugs etc are NOT allowed or tolerated.
  7. Leave a positive review after staying in our fully furnished short term rentals! We hope you love your time in our beautiful southern city. If you have any problems, please discuss them directly with the landlord instead of waiting to complain via a review.
  8. Consider getting Renters Insurance. This type of insurance can be helpful if you have an expensive laptop or other valuables that you want to cover. It can also help cover expenses if something happens to your condo during your stay and you need to relocate.
  9. Be on time to any meetings with your landlord and respond promptly to text messages, phone calls or emails with the landlord. It’s courteous and shows you care about a professional working relationship.
  10. Don’t be unreasonable with your requests. If you have a concern, make it known to your landlord. Be sure to understand that she cares about your request, but is busy and will take care of your need as soon as she can.
